A few moments with DOCS Education member Dr. Thomas Henson
Thomas M. Henson, DDS, has practiced in Athens, Georgia, for over three decades. He attended the University of Georgia and the Emory University School of Dentistry. Dr. Henson also served on the Georgia Board of Dental Examiners for five years. Recently he shared some thoughts about dentistry with the Incisor.
How did you choose dentistry?
I have always been interested in human anatomy and physiology. Being able to help people in pain, improve their appearance and their perception of themselves is rewarding to me.
What do you like most about dentistry and what is the least appealing?
I particularly like the interaction with people and the challenge of solving problems in their masticatory system. I least enjoy endodontics and orthodontic treatments.
What are the biggest challenges facing dentistry today?
I believe it’s convincing patients to accept required treatment as well as helping them become motivated enough in their home care to maintain their oral health.
Who do you consider a mentor in the dental world?
L.D. Pankey.
