Course Objectives: Overview
- Recognize the early signs of respiratory distress, airway obstruction, cardiac distress and allergic reactions in children
- Practice standard pediatric emergency protocols
- Receive hands-on practice running drills on pediatric patient simulators
- Learn to accurately calculate pediatric emergency drug dosing
- Identify the critical differences and similarities between pediatric and adult patients—both physical and behavioral
- Learn common heart algorithms and practice using an and AED on a child experiencing a cardiac emergency
- Review emergency drugs and their administration through intraosseous and other alternate routes of administration

John Bovia
John Bovia has 30 years of experience in emergency medical services dating back to the US military. He was one of the first paramedics to be licensed in the state of Michigan in the late seventies.
John is the co-founder of Life Support Services, Inc. and has been recognized over those years as an outstanding instructor for the American Heart Association (AHA) having trained over 200,000 health care providers including nurses, EMTs, physicians and dentists.
At this time, he instructs the ACLS course for DOCS Education while running one of the largest training centers for the AHA to train health care providers and instruct other trainers on the topic of resuscitation.
