Responding to kids in crisis can be more difficult than treating adults because the earliest indicators of distress can be misinterpreted as nervousness or agitation. Plus, a child's health history is a work in progress and often lacks information on key allergies or sensitivities. Our outstanding instructors lead this course, which is specifically designed for dental offices. Using patient simulators, you'll get hands-on training to prepare you to respond to a real life emergency—using equipment common to most dental offices.
The course highlights include how to quickly determine the right medication doses for children(163); learning to run a MEGACODE emergency in a dental office, rather than a hospital; and practice using AEDs and drills on patient simulators.
Complete all of the skills and written examinations to become an ACLS provider.

Graduates of PALS will learn to recognize and respond to pediatric emergencies inside and outside the dental office.
Course Objectives: Overview
- Recognize the early signs of respiratory or cardiac distress, airway obstruction and allergic reactions in children(70)
- Practice standard pediatric emergency protocols(92)
- Receive extensive hands-on practice running drills on pediatric patient simulators
- Learn to accurately calculate pediatric emergency drug dosing
- Identify the critical differences between pediatric and adult patients, both physical and behavioral
- Learn common heart algorithms and train to use an AED on a child
- Review emergency drugs and their administration (both intraosseous and alternate methods)
- Learn how to use dental office emergency equipment to run a MEGACODE emergency
- Prepare to be a small, or even one-person code team

John Bovia
John Bovia has 30 years of experience in emergency medical services dating back to the US military. He was one of the first paramedics to be licensed in the state of Michigan in the late seventies.
John is the co-founder of Life Support Services, Inc. and has been recognized over those years as an outstanding instructor for the American Heart Association (AHA) having trained over 200,000 health care providers including nurses, EMTs, physicians and dentists.
At this time, he instructs the ACLS course for DOCS Education while running one of the largest training centers for the AHA to train health care providers and instruct other trainers on the topic of resuscitation.
