DOCS was founded on one basic principle. Make sure the high-fear patient has access to safe, comfortable care.
To do that, we needed to reach out to every dentist in the country and give you the tools, the education and the support to make it happen.
So in the basement of a dental practice in Lafayette Hill, the first mailings were sent and the hotel booked. Our mission was to further scientific knowledge and professional education in conscious sedation for dental practices so they may create a safe and welcoming dental experience to the overwhelming masses of people not in the system who avoid seeking care due to fear.
Once it started, there was no stopping. General dentists everywhere are finding new ways to support high-fear patients and to support their current patients with Sedation Dentistry. And each step of the way, DOCS has been there to support them.
Throughout the years DOCS and its members have been on the forefront of regulatory changes as the nation’s Boards ensure the safety of services dentists provide. Our faculty and President have been to many Board meetings, met with the AADE and other committees to education, inform and support the process. And our members and their patients have played an integral role.
An important part of the mission is to support continuing scientific research into the safe administration of oral sedatives for dentistry. This is accomplished by financial funding as well as participation by member offices in clinical studies.
As the science has changed, the curriculum has adapted to become more inclusive and more expansive. From a single two day course to 8 days of training. Some of today’s leaders have joined the faculty. More dentists are attending the programs and bringing their teams.
Knowing how important it is to implement what you’ve learned, DOCS membership services department has built a collection of support tools from mentors and the email network governed by its faculty to credentialing and savings. We don’t leave you when you leave the class.
'Twentieth century dentistry was about new materials, techniques, and technology. We filled our offices with high-speed drills, computers, and lasers. And still today, almost 145 million Americans avoid our services out of fear of pain.
Twenty-first century dentistry is about bridging the gap between the new dental technology and patient comfort' say Michael Silverman, DMD, President.
DOCS is here to stand beside you as you change the way America views dentistry one patient at a time.
