Sedation Solutions - Caring for Challenging Patients
Tuition
Member Doctor - $1411; Each team member - $498; Non-member Doctor - $1570; *Lunch included
2-Days (15 hours CEU)
Prerequisite is "Oral Sedation Dentistry".
In 2 days "Sedation Solutions" will equip you to take the quantum leap to providing safe, effective oral conscious sedation for ASAI, ASAII, and ASAIII patients[18,23]. The medically compromised patient is the fastest growing portion of the population needing sedation dentistry, and will expand the population the sedation dentist can treat by up to 98%.
Understanding that medically complicated patients are more likely to be seeking the professional services of a sedation dentist, this course is designed to allow the dentist to provide care for a large number of patients that is currently having trouble accessing care. The goal is to understand issues critical in the management of a markedly expanded population of patients and to provide safe sedation solutions to selected ASA III patients.
The course utilizes an interactive case management approach to formulate practical dental management solutions for patients who present with:
Severe anxiety
History of difficulty with sedation
Cardiovascular disease: hypertension, angina and MI[10,19]
Diabetes mellitus[19]
Bleeding disorders
Hepatitis[19] and cirrhosis
COPD and asthma[19]
Sleep apnea[10,19]
Renal disease[19]
Topics to be covered:
Pharmacology update
Advanced sedation protocols
Incremental dosing of sedation medications
Osteonecrosis of the jaw in patients on bisphosphonate therapy[8,19,23]
Concerns about antibiotic therapy[8,13]
Practical guidelines for use of analgesics and narcotics
