New Jersey: Oral Sedation Dentistry Regulations

New Jersey State Board of DentistryRule §13:30-8.4(f) requires a dentist to complete at least 40 hours of university-based didactic training and obtain a permit before administering oral conscious sedation to their adult patients.*

* When the intent is Anxiolysis only, a permit is not required.

March 4, 2009: NYU's 40-hour New Jersey Enteral Sedation at NYU course is approved by the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry as meeting the 40-hour university-based didactic training requirement for the NJ enteral sedation permit.

Permit Renewal Requirements (Oral and IV): Twenty (20) hours every two (2) years Board- approved. DOCS course(s) approved for renewal.
