DOCS Education’s 7th annual Sedation Safety Week is nearly here! Don’t miss out on the five resource-filled days that provide dentists around the country with the information to help ensure safety remains the focal point of their practices.

Since day one, the DOCS Education philosophy has remained the same: Safety above all else.

And though this commitment colors every action DOCS Education makes—from curriculum design, to membership resources, to equipment recommendations—there is one week per year where the spotlight upon patient wellbeing is further brightened: Sedation Safety Week (SSW).

Scheduled each year to coincide with daylight saving time, this year’s Sedation Safety Week will take place during the week of March 9-13. Each day, DOCS Education will release a bundle of articles, interviews and news focused upon the sole driving factor behind truly exceptional dentistry: safety.

What can you expect this year?

Monday: Learning Pathways

March 9 will bring an assortment of articles, including commentary by DOCS Education founder Dr. Michael Silverman, on why team training is vital to a vibrant practice.

Recommendations for refresher courses will also be included, along with input from the American Dental Association.

Tuesday: 2nd Annual DOCS Education Dental Safety Scholarship Awards

If you work in the non-profit sector, you’ll want to pay extra attention for Day 2 of SSW. You just may be selected as the winner of our second annual Oral Sedation Dentistry scholarship. DOCS Education knows that safe and anxiety-free dentistry should be available to all—which is why last year Dr. Arnold B. Cullum, a pediatric dentist works with Colorado non-profit KIND (Kids in Need of Dentistry), was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for Pediatric Sedation Dentistry.

Wednesday: Sedation Safety Dentist of the Year Honors

DOCS Education’s Sedation Safety Dentist of the Year will be announced on Wednesday. Each year, a dentist who displays unusual commitment to patient wellbeing, safety and overall excellence in sedation dentistry is selected from a group of peer-submitted nominations.

Thursday: Best Practices Using Capnography

Thursday will focus on the future, specifically, capnogaphy’s rise from niche technology to rapidly expanding safety standard. Why should your office have capnography? How can it benefit your practice and patients? And why will the American Dental Association be discussing this technology at their next annual meeting? All of these topics will be covered.

Friday: 2nd Annual Tooth Faire Open House

SSW will conclude on Friday with the 2nd Annual Tooth Faire. This event will be held at pediatric and family dental practices around the nation. An open house for children and their parents, the Tooth Faire educates families on pediatric sedation dentistry, oral health, and provides a sense of community for children and parents alike. We’ll even be releasing photography from participating practices. The Tooth Fairy herself will even make an appearance!
