Even the Smile is Certified Kosher

Ben’s Best, a kosher gourmet delicatessen in Rego Park (Queens), New York, opened its doors to hungry customers back in 1945, and quickly earned a reputation for serving sumptuous corned beef, potato latkes, knishes, grilled wieners, and free table-top pickles.

Although smiles weren’t on the formal menu, there were plenty of them to go around – both from staff and customers – during the 73 years that Ben’s Best was a neighborhood institution. Alas, on June 30th of this year, Ben’s Best served its last matzo ball and closed shop. The deli’s owners blamed high rents and the loss of convenient neighborhood parking for the restaurant’s demise.

That said, the memories of good food, friendly service, and warm smiles that Ben’s Best was known for live on.

Whether at a deli in Rego Park or visiting the India Gate monument in New Delhi, professional WBIS photographers span the globe in search of radiant, life-affirming smiles. Want to see more great smiles? You can enjoy a gallery of more than 400 WBIS photoshere here.
