Ela Family Farms, known for its certified organic fruits

Hotchkiss, Colorado, current population just shy of 1,000, opened its one and only post office in 1882. Twenty-five years later, in 1907, nearby Ela Family Farms began growing their sweet apples, cherries, peaches, and plums.

Now run by members of the fourth generation, Ela Family Farms not only sells its produce directly to consumers at farmers’ markets (and wholesale to specialty food stores and gourmet restaurants), it also offers organic ciders, dried fruit, jams, and fruit butters.

Of the seven friendly salespeople featured in the photo above, we don’t know which ones – if any – share the Ela DNA. What we can tell you, however, is that their smiles are as pleasing and organic as their produce.

Whether near Hotchkiss, Colorado – named for Enos T. Hotchkiss who led the first group of settlers to the area – or in Ela Township, Illinois, which is named for George Ela, a 19th century Illinois legislator and postmaster, professional WBIS photographers span the globe in search of radiant, life-affirming smiles. You can enjoy an inspiring gallery of more than 500 WBIS photos here.
