Learn the risk factors, clinical implications, and management of osteonecrosis as they apply to sedation dentistry. Course Objectives:

When seeing sedation patients who are undergoing treatment for osteoporosis and/or cancer, it’s critical to understand the risk levels and prevention of osteonecrosis of the jaw. Dr. Fang’s extensive clinical knowledge will enable participants to understand the protocols when treating these patients.

  • Learn the dental implications of osteonecrosis of the jaw.
  • Review Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw.
  • Learn the difference between bisphosphonates and RANKL inhibitors.
  • Compare the risks of bisphosphonate for treatment of osteoporosis and for treatment of cancer.
  • Learn the mechanism of action of bisphosphonates and of RANKL inhibitors.
  • Understand anti-angiogenesis.
  • Assess the risk of dental surgery for people on bisphosphonates, RANKL inhibitors or anti-angiogenetic medications.
