New prescription drugs are consistently introduced to the market. With almost half of Americans taking at least one type of medication, it’s critical to patient safety to familiarize yourself with new drugs and their guidelines when interacting with sedation medication.

In this course presented by DOCS Education Medical Director, Leslie Fang, MD, PhD, he discusses the new oral anticoagulants (NOACs) that are effectively being prescribed in place of Coumadin, and the guidelines for determining dental management when they’re in use. He’ll also address new antiplatelet agents beyond Plavix and aspirin, as well as managing patients with double antiplatelet therapy.

Objectives:

  • Meet the new oral anticoagulants: Pradaxa, Xarelto, Eliquis and Savaysa
  • Recognize each drug’s factors and interactions with sedation dentistry
  • Learn the antiplatelet agents beyond Plavix and baby aspirin
  • Determine the bleeding risk with NOACs and antiplatelet agents
  • Identify the drugs that are safe, and the ones to avoid
