Local anesthetics are the most used drugs in dentistry and are considered the most effective for pain management and prevention. However, the “shot” is the most fear-inducing facet of the dental experience for most patients. An estimated 75% of all dental office medical emergencies are stress-related and therefore preventable.
In this course, Dr. Stanley Malamed shares beneficial information on the injection armamentarium and comprehensive patient evaluation, as well as relevant anatomy and all injection techniques. You will learn about the localized and systemic complications that can arise with local anesthesia, and how to prevent and manage them. The course will cover the facts and fiction of local anesthesia and take an in-depth look at the future of pain control in dentistry.

Meharry Medical College in joint providership with the Washington AGD through its affiliation with DOCS Education has created a new 8-hour course* that fulfills the new one-time opioid course requirement for DEA registration. The course will cover a range of topics related to opioid prescribing and pain management required by the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act, including the risks and benefits of opioids, safe pharmacological management of dental pain and screening, treating and management of patients with substance abuse disorders, patient counseling and education, and more. It is worth 8 CE.

For Illinois Dental Offices: A trained, qualified team is the key to a successful sedation practice. This program has created an online component that qualifies for Section 1220 of IL Administrative Code, as well as an in-office training guide dentists to clinical hands-on training for offices with an IV trained dentist..

6 CE hours

This 8 hour CE course is delivered by John Dovgan, DDS, State Board investigator, and expert witness. How do dentists providing sedation services avoid malpractice claims? Two things. First, they educate themselves on the nuances and peculiarities of anesthetics. Second, they avoid common, but entirely preventable, mistakes. In this course, Dr. Dovgan, DDS explains how malpractice claims are processed. He also shows what to do to ensure one is not filed against you.

8 CE hours

When a medical emergency occurs in the dental office, dentists and their teams need to think fast and undertake lifesaving actions in order to improve a patient’s chances for a successful outcome. Presented in conjunction with the Washington AGD, this course will thoroughly review the 12 emergency scenarios and provide documentation for you and your team to conduct future in-office trainings yourself. The program will offer 4 hours of in-person training to be completed on July 12, 2024, at the Washington AGD offices in Seattle, Washington. 

This Light Sedation online course qualifies for Alaska’s nitrous oxide administration requirements*. It provides 8 hours of CE credit that is issued upon successful completion of the didactic portion with a minimum exam score of 75% and completion of the live patient form. This Light Sedation online course qualifies for Illinois’ nitrous oxide administration and monitoring requirements*. It provides 8 hours of CE credit that is issued with a digital certificate upon successful completion of the lecture, clinical component, and a minimum exam score of 75%.
