Course Description:
This course consists of 2 modules. You’ll earn 5 CE credits upon completion.
The quest for optimal esthetics coupled with the increased strength of all-ceramic materials has led to a significant increase in the clinical use of all-ceramic crowns and fixed partial dentures.
In this presentation, Dr. Goodacre will compare the two types of restorations – all-ceramic crowns or metal-ceramic crowns – based on the factors most important to dentists and their patients when determining which to use. He will also address the most common complications that occur with all-ceramic crowns and discuss ways to optimize their success.
Comparative Characteristics of All-Ceramic and Metal-Ceramic Crowns
Metal-ceramic crowns have been widely and successfully used for many decades, but today there are more all-ceramic restorations being placed. The first module of the course will compare the esthetic benefits and limitations of each type of crown, as well as veneered all-ceramic crowns versus monolithic designs. Other topics include:
- The soft tissue response to both types of crowns
- Biocompatibility considerations
- Metal-ceramic crown survival data and veneer chipping
- Metal-ceramic versus all-ceramic fixed partial dentures
- Accuracy of fabrication and fit
- Cost comparison
Optimizing Success with All-Ceramic Crowns
This module will discuss complications, diagnosis, and treatment planning for all-ceramic crowns. The tooth preparation factors required to optimize the CAD/CAM fabrication process are identified, and the material and cementation processes are described. Additional points covered include:
- Diagnosis and treatment planning factors that minimize fracture
- Comparison of the characteristics of zirconia and lithium disilicate crowns
- Veneer chipping
- Type of cement and crown survival
- What do we know about ceramic onlays and inlays?
- How to optimize the color of all-ceramic crowns
- Video showing shade guide use and digital shade selection
All sales are final.
