We recently had the opportunity to reach out to Dr. Craig Rubinoff, a DOCS Education member and Fellow, and ask him how DOCS Education and sedation dentistry have benefited both his practice and patients. DOCS Education: What has offering sedation dentistry done for your practice? Craig Rubinoff: Since most of our procedures are surgically oriented, it allows me to give an extra level of comfort to patients during longer procedures, not just the "fearful" patients, but also those who just want to relax and not be so aware of what is going on. DOCS Education: What is the most rewarding or inspirational thing about practicing sedation dentistry? Craig Rubinoff: Having patients return for their post-op visits and tell us how surprisingly pleasant the procedure was and that they had little recollection of the visit. For patients who have sequenced treatment plans, the "fear" of the next phase is eliminated. It makes the whole team feel great about what we are doing for our patients. DE: What would you say to other dentists who are considering practicing sedation dentistry or taking a DOCS Education course? CR: Just do it! DE: What are the three biggest things you gained from the DOCS Education course or courses you’ve taken? CR: Knowledge, Confidence, Teamwork. DE: How would you describe your DOCS Education educational experience(s) or what you’ve gained from the faculty? CR: Fantastic. I have taken all of your oral conscious sedation courses and ACLS multiple times. They are first class educational experiences. I have learned new things each time. I have brought my staff and will be doing so again when you are in San Diego in February.
