Meharry Medical College in joint providership with the Washington AGD through its affiliation with DOCS Education has created a new 8-hour course* that fulfills the new one-time opioid course requirement for DEA registration. The course will cover a range of topics related to opioid prescribing and pain management required by the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act, including the risks and benefits of opioids, safe pharmacological management of dental pain and screening, treating and management of patients with substance abuse disorders, patient counseling and education, and more. It is worth 8 CE.

Laryngospasm is a sudden laryngeal and glottic contracture that makes it difficult for a patient to speak or breathe. During this 90-minute presentation, Allan Schwartz, DDS, CRNA and Sedation Consultant, will thoroughly review the anatomy of the airway and the protective mechanisms the human body has in place to safeguard the airway. After a triggering episode, the vocal cords can strongly spasm, and can partially or completely close off any efforts of inspiration and expiration. This course is worth 1.5 CE.
